About the MA in TESOL program

  • Each term is 9 weeks in length, and you may enroll in new courses every 10 weeks.
  • Enroll in 1 course, several courses, or the entire MA in TESOL program.
  • Complete all 10 courses and your thesis and earn your MA in TESOL degree through the Anaheim University Graduate School of Education

During each 9-week term you will be evaluated on your participation in the daily online discussion forum, eight 90-minute real-time online classes,and two assignments

  • Through the Online Discussion Forum, discuss questions regarding your readings with your professor and fellow students around the world
  • Join weekly 90-minute real-time online classes (60 min. Professor led + 30 min. Student Host led) during the first 8 weeks

MA in TESOL Program Objectives

The educational objectives of the MA in TESOL program are as follows:

  • Design a range of curriculum modules, lesson plans, pedagogical materials and assessment tools to meet a range of learner needs
  • Evaluate and critique syllabuses, curricula and pedagogical materials
  • Devise and implement appropriate strategies for student's own ongoing professional development
  • Design implement and evaluate a piece of original research into language acquisition and/or use
  • Summarize significant research findings in the field
  • Describe current research issues and concerns
  • Carry out a detailed literature review using relevant bibliographical resources from print and online resources
  • Articulate current conceptual and theoretical trends, issues and concerns in the fields of applied linguistics and language pedagogy
  • Analyze samples of language from first and second language users using phonological, lexical, morphosyntactic and discoursal tools
