Anaheim University achieves accreditation with Japan's Elementary English Instructors' Certification Committee (J-Shine) -

In July 2008 Anaheim University's English teacher training programs, which initially received accreditation from Japan's Elementary English Instructors' Certification Committee (J-Shine) in 2004, were granted a full 4-year renewal of its accreditation. The 12-week Certificate in Teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL) program through the Anaheim University David Nunan Institute for Language Education is taught with weekly on-campus classes at the Anaheim University Akio Morita Learning Center in central Tokyo, Japan combined with daily online communication. Instructors who successfully pass Anaheim University's Certificate in TEYL and meet the Japan Ministry of Education's requirements for practical teaching hours can register with J-Shine's database of qualified instructors which was created to help boards of education hire qualified instructors.

The Elementary English Instructors' Certification Committee (also known as "Japan Shogakko (Elementary School) Instructors of English or "J-Shine") is a private non-profit organization established to license English instructors in Japan. In February of 2003, J-Shine applied to the Cabinet Office to become a specified non-profit corporation with the mission of supporting the spread and development of English education in Japan's elementary schools.

This certificate program, as well as a series of workshops in Teaching English to Young Learners to be held throughout Japan, is offered in cooperation with Pearson Longman.
