Message from John Nebeck, Ph.D.
Welcome fellow learners,
I began my academic career quite by accident and it has been a wonderful experience. After more than twenty years in consumer and organizational marketing, with emphasis on planning and analysis, I accepted a three-year position with Viterbo University (then Viterbo College). The intent was to return to private industry after this "sabbatical." This fall I will have been with Viterbo for sixteen years where I serve as the marketing department chair and primary instructor for marketing as well as the capstone courses in management for the undergraduate program. The last fifteen years have been rewarding as they have fostered the merger of the practitioner with the academic; that is, the ability and opportunity to move academic thought and theory out of the classroom into the real world. Everything we will be doing in Strategic Planning and Management relates the application of academics to real world situations. My view of strategic management includes the combination of intuition and analysis, what you think plus what you know.
I very much enjoy working with adult learners especially at the graduate level where I view the student as a peer learner. I look forward to working with each of you and believe you will find this study a rewarding experience.
